From the uncertainties around transmission and the pathophysiological differences between children and adults, to the impact of lockdown on learning and mental health, the impact of COVID-19 on children is broad and uncertain.

During this webinar, Dr Tom Marrs, Consultant in Paediatric Allergy, will interview Professor Russell Viner, President of the Royal Society of Paediatrics and Child Health, and Dr Sara Hanna, Medical Director of Evelina London Children’s Healthcare.

Dr Tom Marrs is a Consultant in Paediatric Allergy working in the Children’s Allergies Department at St Thomas Hospital. Tom is also the director of the Allergy Academy. Tom read Medicine, Psychology and Medical Law at Clare College, Cambridge, before completing his clinical training at St Bartholomew’s and Royal London Medical School.

Professor Russell Viner, President of the Royal Society of Paediatrics and Child Health.  He is Professor of Adolescent Health at the UCL Institute of Child Health in London, a paediatrician and adolescent physician working with young people with diabetes at University College Hospital and he directs the Department of Health Obesity Policy Research Unit.

Russell set up the first Adolescent Medicine service in the UK and went on to become the UK’s first Professor of Adolescent Health, helping lead a new focus on adolescent healthcare in the UK and Europe. He has acted as an advisor on adolescent health and obesity for the Departments of Health and for Education in England and for the World Health Organisation and Unicef internationally.

Dr Sara Hanna has been a consultant in intensive care medicine since 2003. During this time she has focused on the development of the South Thames retrieval service which runs and manages the network for the care of critically ill children in the region. Area of expertise: retrieval medicine (transporting patients with serious injuries and illnesses); intensive care medicine . Since 2014 she has been medical director for Evelina London.
