Maya Fiennes’ Friday Plan

Maya Fiennes is a well respected Kundalini yoga practitioner and instructor, based in Los Angeles. Trained as a classical pianist, Maya first found Kundalini Yoga when she was looking for something to help calm her pre-performance nerves. She tried other forms of Yoga, but it was Kundalini Yoga that gave her the key to relaxing and controlling her emotions.

What exactly is Kundalini Yoga? Yogi Bhajan, who brought Kundalini Yoga to the West in 1968, describes Kundalini as an ‘uncoiling of yourself to find your vitality and your potential’.  For Maya, it’s a brilliant and effective way to deal with today’s life stresses. ‘It was the one Yoga technique that gave me the simple, quick tools I needed to either de-stress, energise or calm myself. It’s about real life and dealing with its ups and downs’. Maya’s retreats and classes are in high demand in LA, but thankfully her classes are now available online, as are her range of DVD’s and her best selling book, ‘Yoga for Real Life’.

Theme: Aches and Pains

Whenever I get pinches, aches and pains, I close my eyes, and I just say in my head: “Love, Knowingness, Bliss.” And wherever the pain is, I send a pushing light to it. I visualize it, and keep sending white light and love.  It’s amazing how effective it is, and how quickly it works!

The Second Tibetan

This strengthens the abdominal muscles and massages the organs.  It also strengthens the digestive system and the lower back.

Lie on your back on a mat or a rug.  Your legs are fully extended, ankles flexed and touching.  Arms are by your sides with the palms flat on the floor or under your buttocks if you have a weak lower back.  Inhale through the nose, lift your legs to a 90 degree angle and lift your head, tucking your chin into your chest.  Exhale through either your nose or mouth, bringing your legs and head down to the starting position – completely flat on the ground.  Repeat the entire motion 21 times, inhaling as you raise your legs and head, exhaling as you bring them down.

When you are finished, stand with your feet together and hands on hips.  Take three full, deep breaths, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth and relax.

Talk To Me Smoothie

This shake is excellent for the thyroid and metabolic process. Coconut water cleans and heals the thyroid and parathyroid glands. Kids love this, and it could help them hear what adults are trying to tell them.

  • 240-280ml (1-2 cups) coconut water or coconut juice
  • good handful of blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon almonds
  • 1 date, pitted and chopped
  • good squeeze of lemon juice
  • raw honey to taste
  • pinch of ground cinnamon

Place everything in a blender and puree until smooth and creamy.  Serve with a loud and spoken “Thank You”.
