Liverpool Hope Unveils New Physiotherapy and Sport Rehabilitation Clinic

A new Physiotherapy and Sport Rehabilitation Clinic and clinical teaching space at Liverpool Hope University will not only provide state-of-the-art training facilities for students, but also access to treatment for members staff, students, and the local community.

The Clinic was officially unveiled on Friday 29th November at a special ceremony organised as part of the 2nd Shoulder Rehabilitation Conference, which is being held at Liverpool Hope from Friday 29th – Saturday 30th November 2019.

Located in the University’s Hope Park Sports Complex, the Clinic will allow students on the University’s Sports Rehabilitation course to put learning into practice, as they study the current theories and principles in sport injuries.

Professor Omid Khaiyat, Head of Liverpool Hope University’s School of Health Sciences, said: “We are determined to develop our reputation in the field of Sport Rehabilitation, and hosting an internationally recognised biannual Shoulder Rehabilitation Conference at Hope Park, the development of new clinical facilities, formation of a new accredited course in Sport Rehabilitation, and investment in staffing are strong examples of our strategic commitments towards this aim.”

Led by Clinical Tutors Daniel Richards and Victoria Joyce, who are members of The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the British Association for Sport Rehabilitators (BASRaT), the Clinic will offer services designed to prevent, assess, treat, rehabilitate and manage injuries. Students will be able to observe consultations and develop their knowledge and skills base.

The Clinic will offer initial consultations at a reduced rate for staff and students of the University, while members of the public can book an initial 40-minute consultation for a fee of £40.

Sessions will feature professional advice regarding conditions, and treatments may include; massage and soft tissue release, joint mobilisations, postural correction, electrotherapy, exercise prescription, strapping and taping. In 2020, student-led Sports Massages will also be offered as part of the treatment programme.
