Health emergency of climate change – Episode 1: Discover the role of health professionals in the climate change emergency.

The world is currently in the grip of the worst health crisis in living memory, but the growing climate change emergency poses a far greater threat to the health of humanity.

In this new 10-part series, presented by healthcare professionals for healthcare professionals, experts from across the health community will unite to address the impact that climate change is having on human health. His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will be recording a message to introduce this important series.

By positioning health and wellbeing at the centre of the climate change discussion, the Royal Society of Medicine will give healthcare professionals the opportunity to understand the links between climate change and health and recognise how they can help combat climate change and its effects.

To open the 10-part series, following an introductory message by The Prince of Wales, Professor Linda Luxon will be joined by four leading authorities in the field of climate change and health. They will introduce the overarching themes of the series, presenting an overview of the scale of the climate change emergency, an insight into the health conditions impacted by climate change, and an understanding of how sustainable practices can mitigate healthcare’s own impact on the climate.

Professor Linda Luxon will be joined by Professor Howard Frumkin, Professor Emeritus of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, School of Public Health, University of Washington, Professor Hugh Montgomery, Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at UCL and Director of the Centre for Human Health & Performance, Dr Tolullah  Oni, Urban Epidemiologist at the Medical Research Council Epidemiology Unit at the University of Cambridge, and Dr David Pencheon, founding Director of the NHS Sustainable Development Unit.
