Who are the celebs helping us get through 2020?
Marcus Rashford, Sir David Attenborough, Joe Wicks and Martin Lewis are among a list of celebrities who have helped get us through the year according to research released by Aldi, based on a nationally representative sample of 2,000 Britons was conducted online via insights agency Perspectus Global.
A nationwide poll reveals the stars Brits feel have kept the nation’s spirits up the most during the pandemic, with TV legend and environmentalist, David Attenborough (50 percent) and the nation’s P.E. teacher Joe Wicks (24 percent) both featuring high in the list.
Fundraiser Captain Tom Moore (35 percent) and school meals campaigner and Manchester United star Marcus Rashford (18 percent) also made the top five.
Other celebs celebrated for their positive contribution to the nation were consumer champion Martin Lewis (23 percent), TV presenting duo Holly Willoughby (17 percent), Phillip Schofield (15 percent), and GMB host Piers Morgan (16 percent).
The top ten was rounded off by national treasure Mary Berry (15 percent) and comedian Matt Lucas (14 percent).
Other comedians who have served up laughs include Romesh Ranganathan (9 percent) and Bob Mortimer (7 percent), for his hilarious Instagram character “train guy”.
Aldi commissioned the survey to celebrate those that have really kept them going and thank our ‘wingmen’ for everything they have done to keep the UK’s collective chin up.
Sean McGinty, Marketing Director at Aldi UK commented: “It’s fair to say it’s been quite a year, one where we’ve all recognised the importance of being there for each other.
“Our Christmas campaign nods to that wingman mentality, and to echo this, we wanted to celebrate the personalities who’ve kept us going; the ultimate wingmen we’re all so thankful for in 2020.
“Whether they’ve helped us keep fit and stay motivated, completed an incredible feat for charity or simply lifted us with light entertainment on TV, the names on this list have provided a sense of relief, a glimmer of positivity and most importantly, reminded us to stay optimistic.”
The survey found that 67 percent of Brits agree that inspiring celebs have had an important role in helping us through the challenges of 2020.
While three quarters said that these celebs embodied the saying “Keep calm and carry on”.
Almost two thirds (61 percent) of people said our best loved personalities had inspired us to stay positive, nearly half (45 percent) said it was because they allowed us to escape for a while, and a third (32 percent) claimed they gave us hope.
