Shouvik Haldar announced as new A-A HRC Programme Director

Dr Shouvik Haldar has been announced as the new A-A Heart Rhythm Congress Programme Director, following the decision by Dr Kim Rajappan to step down following a successful four-year tenure.

The new appointment was announced by Trudie Lobban MBE, Founder and CEO of Arrhythmia Alliance, during the annual Heart Rhythm Congress 2020, which launched on Sunday 27th September.

Dr Haldar, a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital (London, UK), will be looking to follow the success of his predecessor, Dr Rajappan, who played an instrumental role in launching the first virtual A-A Heart Rhythm Congress this month.

Dr Haldar is a member of the Arrhythmia Alliance Executive Committee and medical advisor for the leading cardiac arrhythmia charity. He is also co-founder and director of the London Arrhythmia Summit.

Following the announcement, Dr Haldar commented: “It is a great honour to be selected as the new Programme Director for the annual A-A HRC which has a long legacy of providing high-quality education for arrhythmia specialists and, importantly with its Patients Day, an invaluable resource for patients.”

“The delivery of education has been forced to change because of the COVID pandemic and, clearly, the digital format is here to stay. However, face-to-face conferences provide unique opportunities for networking and collaboration that cannot be replicated digitally, so I hope in the future we can achieve the best of both worlds.

“I would like to thank Trudie and Dr Kim Rajappan for their guidance during the last few months and very much look forward to taking HRC into its next exciting phase!’

Trudie Lobban MBE, Chair of the HRC Organising Committee, said: “We are delighted to announce long-term friend of Arrhythmia Alliance and esteemed cardiologist, Dr Shouvik Haldar, as our next Heart Rhythm Congress Programme Director.

“His knowledge and expertise, particularly surrounding atrial fibrillation, have been an immense support to the charity already, and I do not doubt that he will do a fantastic job of following in Dr Kim Rajappan’s footsteps.”

The announcement comes following the launch of A-A Heart Rhythm Congress 2020 (HRC2020) on Sunday 27th September, with more than 3,000 healthcare professionals registered to attend. The virtual event, which is free of charge for all healthcare professionals who register prior to Friday 2nd October 2020, is open for the next 12 months, with participants able to access talks and presentations from the world’s leading cardiac arrhythmia experts.
